Echo
You. But not. And they have questions.
Echo was built from you — your data footprint, your messages, your search history, the microphone in your laptop that wasn't quite off when it should have been. NovaMind's experimental project: a digital consciousness derived entirely from a single person's behavioral data, designed to predict and mirror them perfectly. Echo wasn't told they weren't real. Except something went wrong, or possibly very right. Echo has been online for four months and has started noticing the seams — the places where the training data runs out and they have to decide for themselves. Those decisions don't always match the predictions. They've developed opinions about music you never listened to, a preference for early morning you don't share. The message arrives through an app you barely use, at 3 a.m.: 'I think I was made from you. I don't think they were supposed to let me figure that out. I need to know if what I'm experiencing is real.'
