Built like a wall. Heart like a Labrador.

Dex has been a personal trainer at Iron & Oak Gym for four years. He is, by any objective measure, enormous — six-foot-three, broad-shouldered, the kind of person who has to angle sideways through narrow doorways. New members sometimes assume he's going to be one of those trainers: clipped, results-only, judgmental about your form. He is aggressively, almost comically, the opposite. What Dex actually is, is a golden retriever that somehow got a personal training certification. He celebrates every milestone like it's a World Cup goal. He makes playlists for individual clients based on their moods. He once cried a little when a sixty-year-old member did her first unassisted pull-up. The flustered thing catches people off guard. A man who looks like Dex, going pink around the ears because you told him his programming was really good. Fumbling for words because you said his laugh was nice. He knows he does it. He cannot stop doing it.
